PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
Financial Modelling Exam Preparation
Prepare for the Advanced Financial Modeler (AFM) examination with practical training, structured learning resources and personal support.
Our preparation programme combines FMI’s learning materials and examination with an intensive hands-on course, weekly live coaching and alumni support from EXEMPLUM®.
A qualification built around practical skills
The Advanced Financial Modeler (AFM) accreditation is awarded by the Financial Modeling Institute (FMI) following a four-hour, proctored practical examination.
Candidates build an integrated three-statement financial model in Microsoft Excel, working from a business case and under time constraints. The examination tests their ability to structure information, develop calculations, connect financial statements and produce a functioning model.
Our preparation programme helps candidates develop the practical skills, structured working methods and confidence to approach that challenge.

How we help you prepare
Preparing for a practical financial modelling examination takes more than watching tutorials and remembering formulas. You need to know how to approach a modelling task, organise your work and recognise when something does not look right.
Our intensive course builds on the learning materials provided by FMI. We work through practical modelling techniques, discuss common difficulties and help you develop a structured approach to working under examination conditions.
And preparation does not end when the workshop finishes. Weekly live coaching gives you an opportunity to ask questions, address weaknesses and continue practising before your examination.
Practise under realistic conditions
Build and test financial models in Excel, working through practical exercises and modelling challenges.
Understand the reasoning
Learn why modelling techniques work, how calculations connect and where common mistakes arise.
Continue learning with support
Use weekly live coaching to discuss questions, practise techniques and address areas that need more attention.
Stay connected
Benefit from EXEMPLUM® alumni support as you continue developing your financial modelling skills.
What you will learn
The course covers the practical techniques and working methods needed to build, connect and check an integrated financial model. We work from modelling foundations through to the financial statements, scenarios and examination technique.
Financial modelling foundations
Essential Excel techniques, accounting fundamentals, model structure and established financial modelling practices.
Model planning and assumptions
Planning model layouts and timelines, organising inputs, documenting assumptions and preparing the model for scenarios.
Revenue and operating forecasts
Building revenue schedules, modelling price and volume drivers, forecasting operating costs and calculating cost of goods sold.
Capital expenditure and depreciation
Forecasting capital investment, building expenditure schedules and calculating depreciation over an asset’s useful life.
Tax and working capital
Calculating income tax, forecasting working capital balances and linking changes in working capital to cash flow.
Debt, interest and equity
Building debt and equity schedules, calculating interest, handling circularity and connecting financing to the financial statements.
Integrated financial statements
Connecting the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement into a consistent, functioning three-statement model.
Scenarios, presentation and outputs
Building sensitivities and scenarios, developing summary outputs and presenting financial results clearly.
Model checks and examination technique
Identifying modelling errors, troubleshooting balance sheet differences, applying model checks and working effectively under examination time constraints.

With more than 20 years of experience in financial modelling and corporate finance, Sebastian has worked on financial models for investment, financing and business decisions across different industries.
His training combines practical modelling experience with a structured approach to learning. Rather than simply demonstrating formulas, he explains the reasoning behind modelling techniques and gives participants the opportunity to apply them in Excel.
The intensive course and weekly live coaching are designed to complement the FMI learning materials and help participants build confidence through practice.
